Annoyed with DS, Outsourcing Employee Umbar DS Info on Twitter

01 September 2020

FPH is suspected of having illegally accessed the PT Telkomsel database, by abusing its authority to obtain someone's personal data. FPH then sent a photo of the desktop display containing personal data information to a Twitter account via direct message (DM). FPH did this because they basically don't like DS, which resulted in being bullied by the social media accounts of DS supporters. FPH personally sympathizes with the Twitter account, so it sends the personal data to the Twitter@Opposite6890 account, which then disseminates the data by the Twitter account. As a result of his actions, FPH is threatened with imprisonment for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 10 years and/or a fine of a maximum of IDR 10,000,000,000 (ten billion rupiah).

Until now, Indonesia does not yet have a law regarding the protection of personal data in electronic systems and transactions. Minister of Communication and Information Technology Regulation Number 20 of 2016 which has been used so far is still not strong enough to provide protection to the public considering its legal status is not stronger than the Law. Therefore, the preparation of the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP) continues to be pushed so that it can be passed immediately.
What if someone knows some or all of our personal data, such as name, place and date of birth, list of family members, cellphone number, email, credit card number, PIN, account number, social media account password, and other personal data? For a number of irresponsible parties, including cyber criminals, it can be used to send marketing messages, spam emails, try to guess passwords, and may even be used to answer validation questions that are usually asked when someone forgets a certain password, including for banking purposes when querying them for data matching.

Make sure we regularly, for example, change passwords with strong combinations, change PINs, activate two factor authentication, and keep our personal data protected for ourselves and never shared with other people, and not listed on the social media accounts we have.
