Beware of WhatsApp Hijackers! Do this to be safe

23 January 2020

Fraud via WhatsApp is one of the many methods reported by the public. The most frequently used mode is scanning the QR Code available on the Whatsapp Web feature on your cellphone. The Whatsapp hijacker will use your account to do various things, such as asking for money, asking for credit, or even carrying out a romance scam.

To avoid WhatsApp hijackers, there are several things you can do, such as:

1. Activate the “Lock Whatsapp” feature

One of the latest security features embedded in Whatsapp is the screen lock feature. You can activate this feature via the 'settings', 'privacy' section, then activate the 'screen lock' feature.

2. Change your “Last Seen” to “Nobody”

For really ignorant people, your online status information can be very useful for them. They could learn about your activities on WhatsApp. When they successfully take over your account, they will follow your online habits.

3. Set your "Profile Photo" to "My Contacts"

Also be careful with your profile picture. It could be that unknown people can easily use your picture on another WhatsApp account.

4. "Deactivate Whatsapp" when your cellphone is lost

5. Don't forget to log out of WhatsApp after you have finished using the "Whatsapp Web" feature.

The Whatsap Web feature often takes its toll, especially when users don't immediately 'log out' after using this feature. Moreover, there are many applications created for mirroring Whatsapp. Usually, this can be done by someone closest to you or someone who has access to your cellphone.
