Cybercrime amounting to IDR 1.75 billion was successfully detected by Bareskrim Polri

The National Police's Cyber Crime Directorate, Bareskrim, succeeded in detecting cyber crimes committed by CP. He was also arrested along with a number of pieces of evidence found in Majalengka, West Java on June 25 2019.

The suspect CP is a customer of a state-owned bank who is suspected of having committed the criminal act of attempted hacking (illegal access) of an ATM machine using his Giro ATM card which he had modified. From the proceeds of his crime, he obtained more than IDR 1.7 billion and caused the state-owned bank to suffer huge losses.

According to the Head of Sub-Directorate I Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri, Pol Kombes Dani Kustoni, S.IK, economic motives were the reason CP carried out ATM burglaries during the last three months. Apart from meeting daily needs, it turns out that CP will use the proceeds from the ATM hack to open a household equipment business.

After conducting a deeper investigation, the following is evidence and the results of CP's "shopping" with the transfer money;

·     4 cars

·     1 motorbike

·     4 mobile phone units

·     2 Laptops

·     cash up to IDR 5 million

·     3 rings, 1 necklace and 1 gold bracelet

·     4 savings account books from various banks

·     6 ATMs from various banks

·     one bundle of proof of transfer

·     1 Hegner brand watch

·     1 bundle of PT Kalimas Bintang Pratama bookkeeping

·     4 computer devices


Head of Sub-Directorate I, Directorate of Cyber Crime, Bareskrim, Commissioner Pol. Dani Kustoni emphasized that his party would continue to investigate the alleged crime of illegal access to ATM machines, including investigating the involvement of state-owned banks in connection with this ATM burglary.

Cases of ATM burglary are nothing new, but as technology develops, cybercrime perpetrators such as hacking and theft seem to have a multitude of ways to carry out their actions. The public is also advised to be alert and seek more information about protecting against cybercrime.
